Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids

OTC hearing aids are for people over age 18 with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss and no other ear conditions. To qualify, let’s start with a few questions:

Over-the-counter hearing aids are designed for mild to moderate hearing loss only. If you have moderate to severe hearing loss, you must consult a hearing professional.

What is the difference between Prescription and OTC hearing aids?

Prescription Hearing Aids

Prescription hearing aids are for all ages and levels of hearing loss. Prescription hearing aids are dispensed by licensed hearing care professionals trained to evaluate hearing, diagnose hearing loss, and help optimize hearing health.

Prescription hearing aids are personally fit by the hearing care professional and adjusted based on the results of the comprehensive hearing evaluation conducted at the in-person exam.

OTC Hearing Aids

Over-the-counter hearing aids are for people 18 years and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss only.  They are not meant for people with more severe hearing loss or other medical conditions of the ear such as a history of drainage, pain or discomfort, or dizziness.

OTC hearing aids are self-fitting devices that use your smartphone to fit and adjust on your own without the guidance of a licensed hearing care professional.
