Hearing Aid Repair and Coverage

Peace of mind so you don’t miss a minute.
Last update on Jan, 07, 2026

Investing in your hearing health is about more than just buying a device. It’s about connecting to the world around you in a way that works for you. However, like any technology that’s used daily, wear and tear are inevitable. When your device stops working optimally, it can be stressful.

If that happens to you, your first question might be about repair insurance coverage. Hearing aids usually come with a 1-to-3-year manufacturer's repair warranty. Medicaid covers hearing aid repairs, but coverage varies based on certain factors we’ll cover later.

Post-purchase support is just as important as the initial fitting. When looking for routine maintenance or urgent hearing aid repair, it’s important to understand your options.

Can Hearing Aids Be Repaired?

Yes, hearing aids can be repaired. Because they’re usually used daily, minor malfunctions are common. Fortunately, most issues are easily fixable by a knowledgeable provider.

  • Minor repairs: Often handled in-office by your provider (e.g., clogged wax guards, broken tubing, or issues with the battery door).
  • Major repairs: Internal component failures (such as the microphone or receiver) may require sending the device to the manufacturer for expert attention.

Why Invest in Routine Hearing Aid Maintenance Services

The key to keeping your hearing aids in good condition is preventive care. Here are 8 steps to maximize the life of your hearing aids.

Beyond at-home maintenance, you’ll want to schedule routine follow-ups with your provider. At these appointments, providers will

  • Clean and check the hearing aids.
  • Replace wax filters and domes.
  • Update hearing aid firmware if there’s an update available.
  • Adjust hearing aids, if necessary.

These timely follow-ups help make sure smaller issues are caught before they require a full hearing aid repair.

Finding a Hearing Aid Repair Clinic

Amplifon members are never far from help. If you notice your hearing aid isn’t working as well as it usually does, find a qualified hearing aid repair clinic.

It’s worth noting that while your hearing aids are still under warranty, the repair itself will be covered. However, if you go to a clinic that’s not your AHHC network dispensing provider, you may have out-of-pocket costs associated with services provided, such as fixing a broken receiver wire.

Through Amplifon’s extensive network, it’s likely that you have access to a nearby provider. These clinics are equipped to handle diagnostics and repairs, ensuring you get the help you need. Accessing professional hearing aid repair services helps make sure that your warranty remains valid and that the repair is done correctly.

Request an appointment from a trusted hearing health care provider.

Medicaid Coverage and Repairs

Hearing aids provided by Medicaid programs have standard warranties just like private pay hearing aids. However, if the hearing aids are outside the manufacturer's repair warranty, Medicaid will pay for the repair if the repair is necessary (not medically necessary) and not related to misuse or neglect. For example, if your dog chewed your hearing aid, Medicaid isn't going to pay for that.

Other than Medicaid, no health insurance covers hearing aid repairs.

What About VA Hearing Aid Repair?

VA-issued hearing aids have a standard 3 year or a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. However, if the hearing aids are outside this warranty, the VA will provide repairs or replacements for qualified veterans. [1]
