What Is a “Hearing Number”?
Your Hearing Number is a score that represents how well you hear sounds across different frequencies using the 4-frequency pure-tone average (PTA4). PTA4 is one of the methods professionals use to measure hearing.
You’ll get two Hearing Numbers, one for your right ear and one for your left, since hearing ability can differ between the two.
The PTA4 defines these general categories as follows:
- Mild: Hearing Number between 20 and 34
- Moderate: Hearing Number between 35 and 49
- Moderate-Severe: Hearing Number between 50 and 64
- Severe: Hearing Number between 65 and 79
